Victims in France express disappointment over pedophile verdict

Vannes (France), May 28 (EFE) - The maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison handed down Wednesday against France's biggest child molester, Joël Le Scouarnec, did not prevent widespread disappointment among his hundreds of victims, as the ex-prisoner could ask for his conditional release in six years. Le Scournec was sentenced today for rapes and sexual assaults against 298 victims (one of those listed in the indictment was subtracted due to an identification error), the vast majority of whom were minors, committed between 1989 and 2014 while he worked as a surgeon in several hospitals in the country. CAMERA: TERESA SUAREZ/EDGAR SAPIÑA MANCHADO. FOOTAGE OF APPEAL IN FRONT OF THE COURT OF VANNES, AFTER THE VERDICT OF THE TRIAL AGAINST JOËL LE SCOUARNEC. SOUNDBITES AND TRANSLATIONS: 1.- Louis-Marie, victim of Joël Le Scouarnec, pedophile sentenced to 20 years in prison for assaulting and raping 299 minors (I live it) First of all, with relief, because it means that this is over and, secondly, with a little regret because (Joël Le Scouarnec) may be out in a few years, which means that the children he comes across at that time will not be protected. 2.- Maxime Tessier, lawyer of Joël Le Scouarnec, pedophile sentenced to 20 years in prison for assaulting and raping 299 minors Justice is done because this procedure is ended by declaring him guilty. Since Mr. Le Scouarnec has acknowledged all the facts, the first thing we note is that the Criminal Court pointed out in its decision the extreme importance of Joël Le Scouarnec's acknowledgement. It was not only a question of recognizing the facts, but also of recognizing the consequences. 3.- Manon Lemoine, spokesperson of the Collective of Victims of Joël Le Scouarnec 57 days of hearings to look into the eyes of a country that does not protect children, 57 days to express indignation and say never again. And yet, what a failure, what a shame. 300 victims dismissed as an event. No debate, no reaction, nothing. The c

French justice sentences the country's biggest identified pedophile to 20 years in prison

Vannes (France), May 28 (EFE/EPA) - The excirujano Joël Le Scouarnec, considered the biggest pedophile in France, was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison for sexual assault and abuse of 299 victims, most of them minors. Le Scouarnec, 74, was found guilty of virtually all charges by the Criminal Court of Vannes (Brittany, west) and sentenced to the maximum possible penalty in France for rape offenses. CAMERA: TERESA SUAREZ/EDGAR SAPIÑA MANCHADO. FOOTAGE OF THE PROTEST IN FRONT OF THE COURT IN VANNES, IN WHICH SOME OF THE VICTIMS PARTICIPATED, ON THE DAY THE VERDICT OF THE TRIAL AGAINST JOËL LE SCOUARNEC WAS ANNOUNCED, IN VANNES, FRANCE. SOUNDBITES IN FRENCH BY A MAN AND A WOMAN NAMED CATHERINE, BOTH MEMBERS OF JOËL LE SCOUARNEC'S VICTIMS' COLLECTIVE. TRANSLATIONS: 1.- Man Of course it is unfair (the media coverage of the case), but we will see if the actions we take afterwards are really listened to. Today it is up to us to show that we are there. 2.- Catherine Only the political world can change the laws and ensure that our children are protected in the future. It is not fair that if he gets 20 years, he will be out in 5 years. In 5 years he can still abuse, he can still be a child predator. 3.- Catherine We're a little bit stressed because, although I don't expect anything from the verdict, it's also the end of a long journey and now we're going to have to process everything, because it's going to be over. And what's going to change, what's going to move, what's going to make our future generations more protected? That's what I wonder with the end of this trial.
