Extensive power outage leaves Cannes without electricity

Cannes, France, May 24 (EFE).- An extensive power outage has left the western part of the French department of Alpes-Maritimes without electricity, including the town of Cannes, where the closing ceremony of its prestigious film festival is to be held on Saturday with the awarding of the Palme d'Or. A spokesman for the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture told EFE that the blackout affected the entire western part of the department, bordering Italy, and said that the causes were still unknown. There is also no power supply at the city's train station and railway services sources told EFE that, for the moment, no trains have been canceled, although the first delays are already being reported.
