"What we are seeing is the complexity of making these kinds of trips with boats, which are also informal, and we do not yet have a formal record of the actual number of passengers, because we know that of those who boarded (the boat) and were formally registered. So more passengers, more survivors, more deceased, and more missing persons are appearing."

STORYLINE:
At least 12 people died on Monday after two passenger river transport boats capsized when a block of earth on the bank of one of the main rivers in the Peruvian Amazon collapsed into the water, causing a strong wave, authorities reported.
The accident occurred on the Ucayali River in the early morning hours near the port of Iparia, located more than a day's sail from the capital of the Ucayali region, according to the National Civil Defense Emergency Operations Center (COEN).
The “event was reported as a result of erosion of the banks of the Ucayali River, for which support was requested from the Navy,” the COEN added.
The Mobile Emergency Care System, a public service for medical emergencies, told The Associated Press by telephone that 12 deaths had been reported so far. The number of missing
